I find this question valuable when trying to understand "God" (even though it is not as useful/helpful as having faith if you are a true believer in "God"). But in the spirit of understanding "God", I am going to play the devil's advocate...Who are we, mere mortals limited by our humanity to think we are capable of understanding the motives/purposes of "God"?
